Hogne Bleie graduated as a veterinary surgeon from Glasgow University in 1994, and is a fish pathologist with a Masters Degree within aquaculture and fish health (MSc) from Stirling University in 1995.

He has works as a researcher and diagnostician at the Norwegian Veterinary Institute in Bergen, and he has held several scientific and commercial positions within aquaculture and pharmacy.

He now works in his own company as a consultant for research and development within aquaculture, fish welfare and biotechnology through his family firm Mallard AS.
