Johan Teige graduated as a veterinarian from the Free University of Berlin in 1979. He holds a post as senior advisor at the Norwegian Food Safety Authority's regional office in Hedmark and Oppland. After over a year's work in the public sector with meat hygiene and 6 years in clinical veterinary practice, he began as District Veterinary Officer in 1988 in the same county. His work has involved a wide range of areas within animal health and protection. He is concerned that individual animals shall be handled with respect, regardless of their size or commercial value, and that the regulatory authorities work on the side of the animals. He is especially interested in the welfare issues connected to methods for humane killing and transport of animals.
