Siri Kristine Knudsen graduated as a veterinarian from the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science in 1997. She took her doctoral thesis on the welfare of marine mammals at the School's Department of Arctic Veterinary Medicine in Tromsø in 2004. Since 2007 she has worked as Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Comparative Medicine at the Faculty of Health and Science at the University of Tromsø. She holds courses in Research Animal Science both for scientists working with traditional laboratory animals and for field researchers. She also teaches lab animal science at other institutions in Norway. She was deputy member of the Norwegian Animal Research Authority from 2009 until it was disbanded in 2015. She is a Board Member of the Scandinavian Society for Laboratory Animal Science (Scand-LAS) and the European Federation of Laboratory Animal Science Associations (FELASA). She is also a member of the Scand-LAS Working Group for education and continued professional development. She is especially interested in the development of optimal teaching methods to advance the three Rs.
