This step-by-step guide shows methods of performing basic techniques on laboratory minipigs by the use of pictures. This visual training guide to research techniques was developed to provide a new resource for hands-on-training. Please Note: This book is not intended to replace a formal program or guidance by trainers. The trainer must refer to his own institition's standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines for anaesthesia and analgesia requirements, dosing volumes, route of blood collection, and needle size. There may be other acceptable variations to the techniques presented in this book that may be used at the trainer's institution. The trainer can provide additional information during training for adapting a procedure to specific institutional SOPs. The book includes sections on acclimation and handling, animal identification, restraint, blood collection, and compound administration. A practical feature of the book is that each page is laminated, allowing the book to be sanitised when transferred between facility rooms. All procedures performed for photography are conformed to an IACUC-approved animal care and use policy.
