Animal Science Group (ASG)

The Animal Science Group (ASG) is a Special Interest Group (SIG) of the UK Royal Society of Biology (RSoB), representing the broad spectrum of UK bodies actively involved in supporting, formulating policy or directly involved in research involving animals.

The Animal Science Group (ASG) is a Special Interest Group (SIG) of the UK Royal Society of Biology (RSoB), representing the broad spectrum of UK bodies actively involved in supporting, formulating policy or directly involved in research involving animals.

The specific aims of ASG are:

  • To act as a national focus and forum for all animal science policy issues.

  • To be responsible for developing Society policy on animal sciences issues relating to both research and teaching.

  • To work co-operatively with other interested parties in developing a co-ordinated bioscience sector policy on animal sciences.

  • Alongside other parties, to negotiate with regulators to promote a legal and regulatory framework that supports both high quality research and animal welfare.

  • To promote understanding and open communication with the press, schools, the general public and other interested parties on matters of animal science.

  • To work towards such strategic or operational alliances as may promote the above.

  • To communicate its policies and activities to both Council and its members in a timely manner.

  • To prepare an annual report covering current and planned policy, strategy, activities and expenditure and to communicate this to Council.

  • To arrange, oversee or otherwise co-ordinate other activities concurrent with the aims of the ASG, as agreed by the members.
