17-page report with references from a meeting held in Newcastle 27-28 February 2006.
The meeting was convened to achieve consensus views on best practice, to establish where there are areas of disagreement and identify research needs to address these, to meet the immediate need for guidance at a local level and to consider whether any preferable alternatives are available.
The report recommended a set of behavioural and physiological studies which should be carried out to increase our understanding of the subject.
The report (Hawkins et al., 2006) can be accessed here.
A second meeting was held in Newcastle in 2013 and focused on the welfare implications of euthanasia of mice, rats and zebrafish.
