| Description: | In this video-supported workshop, we will present the basics of pain physiology, show how to recognize pain of an animal, and explain what impact pain may have on the animal and on experimental results. A physician can estimate rather easily whether a patient is in pain or not - the patient can express him-/herself and will usually be understood. Our animals also express themselves when they feel pain - but do researchers really understand this expression of pain in the experimental animal? How can, e.g., abdominal pain be detected in a laboratory mouse? How does a rodent experiencing thoracic pain look like? Do you see what you could (should) see? |
