Turtle Skeleton Articulated 3255

The class will have the opportunity to study what is beneath the tough outer shell of the genus Pseudemys (common pond turtle) with this carefully prepared skeleton. The ligamentary preparation shows the coracoid-acromial ligaments of the pectoral girdle, which is not included in nonligamentary preparations. The plastron is removed and attached to the back of the carapace to show internal skeletal details, including the fusion of the dorsal vertebrae and ribs into the plastron. The hyoid, phalanges, and digits are also featured. The skeleton is cleaned, degreased, and bleached so it will retain its perfect condition. It is supported in a vertical position by a clear plexiglas support fastened to a wooden base.

Natural bone. An included key identifies 39 structures. Wooden base size: 8 x 7 inches. Skeleton measures approximately 9 inches.
