Charite 3R Berlin

Charite 3^R is the 3R centre at the University hospital Charite (Charite – Universitätsmedizin) in Berlin.

Together with the Berlin-Brandenburg Research Platform (BB3R), they form the Berlin 3R group.

Founded in 2018, Charite 3^R aims at strengthening interdisciplinary and translational research at the University Hospital, while improving animal welfare. Charite 3^R will stimulate research in all 3Rs and foster the development of novel alternative methods. In doing so, Charite 3^R is set contribute to the establishment of meaningful human disease models and the improvement of translational processes in biomedicine. The center is financially supported directly by the Charite.

Charite 3^R has organized its aims and activities in three distinct pillars:

1. Pillar I focuses on communication and outreach, aiming at increasing awareness of the 3R principles within the scientific community.
2. Pillar II aims at providing training opportunities to the scientists about alternative methods through courses and e-learning modules e.g. and ultimately incorporating the 3R topic in the education curriculum of the Charité. It also aims to help young scientists find important information about the 3Rs more quickly using the Charité 3R Toolbox.
3. Pillar III promotes 3R research by directly funding projects via dedicated calls that tackle one or more of the 3R areas. It also catalyzes further cooperations by supporting collaborative initiatives in 3R.

Taking advantage of being situated in Berlin, in proximity to governing bodies and important stakeholders, Charité 3^R is working on creating a network of 3R with local, national and international partners, such as the Berlin-Brandenburg Research Platform (BB3R) and the QUEST Center for translational medicine.
