Learning outcome: |
By the conclusion of this module, a student will be expected to be able to: a) Demonstrate knowledge of the numbers, main species and types of animals used for scientific and educational purposes, and of the main procedures to which they’re subjected, and of the types of impacts such animals experience b) Demonstrate the ability to critically scrutinise the utility of animal use for these purposes c) Demonstrate the ability to critique the design and methodology of animal research protocols, and an awareness of the most common flaws d) Demonstrate an understanding of 3Rs strategies, including the main types of alternatives available, within scientific and educational animal use e) Demonstrate the ability to apply harm-benefit analyses to the scrutiny of animal use f) Demonstrate an understanding of the types of regulation and policy governing scientific and educational animal use |
