Description: | - Basic Theoretical and Training Courses - CELL CULTURE: THE RULES OF ALTERNATIVE METHODS in accordance to EU laws (8 eds from 2013- 2016) gave an overview on in vitro 3D alternatives methods for evaluation the human risk assessment related to exposure to chemical compounds, and highlighted how, many international organizations, such as ECVAM and OECD, cooperate for development of regulations on reducing the use of animals in laboratory, through the validation of in vitro toxicity tests. The training boxes are dedicated to the use of alternative in vitro well standardized and reproducible models, to allow a simulation of in vivo conditions, reducing the use of animals. - Advanced Theoretical and Training Courses – (4 Eds from 2015 at present) The theoretical modules included relations by several researchers as the specialists who would also set up the training boxes. One of the features of the success of these courses is that most of the speakers are from Companies engaged in the field of in vitro advanced technologies, cellular models and so on for giving more and more reliable results in in vitro toxicology. Moreover The TRAINING MODULES offered several hands-one experiences to each participant since the specialists offer the possibility to directly use these technologies and perform analysis on the proposed models. In addition, a panel discussion among experts and trainees contributes to set a scientific network on alternative methods. The course provides an update for training theoretical-practice of future researchers and those who do already research activity, to increase the use of alternative methods and the possibility of setting up new models scientifically valid, to replace those on animals. The course is focused on how the new emerging technologies can strengthen interpretation and application of in vitro methods in research toxicology. The Course includes a large training part where each single participant, under the guidance of qualified experts, can perform toxicity tests on 3D models of human reconstituted tissues, as required by European laws (i.e. REACH) and innovative scaffolds and technologies for 3-D cultures. |

BASIC COURSES Theoretical modules include: the 3R concept; efforts to reduce the animal number in scientific research; alternative methods possibilities and limits; Ingredients of culture media; overview on validated basic toxicity tests and 3D models; new and emerging technologies; certification according to the international standard ISO 9001:2008, and GPL.; Cell line quality control in biomedical research; Cell Factories of cell lines for clinical use. Practical modules include: sterile working techniques to establish in vitro models; experimental treatments for assessment of chemical cytotoxic potential, by ECVAM validated tests (NRU, MTT); data analysis, EC25-50-75 extrapolation, by dedicated software. Each participant can run at the same time personally all test phases, since waiting time is reduced by giving parallel cell culture, treated few hours in advance. ADVANCED COURSES. The theoretical modules included ethical issues, talks by specialists from companies engaged in the field of advanced updated in vitro technologies, who offered participants the possibility to try out their technologies, including RHE tissues used in validated methods to asses skin/ocular irritation and corrosion potential, in the traiining boxes. |
