| Description: | The three-year residency in Laboratory Animal Science & Welfare provides advanced education and training in clinical laboratory animal medicine, husbandry, management and welfare, as well as a thorough grounding in the ethical and legislative framework in which humane in-vivo research is conducted. This will be provided through a mixture of formal and informal learning and self-directed study, with an emphasis on experiential learning within the day to day, clinical setting. |

The programme’s objectives are to: To prepare you to complete successfully the laboratory animals examinations administered by the European College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ECLAM). Assist you to gain knowledge, behavioural and practical skills in laboratory animal medicine, science and welfare in order to prepare you for a career as a designated veterinarian or laboratory animal veterinarian. Allow you to conduct clinical research projects and produce conference and peer-reviewed journal publications from these. |

During this training programme you will be expected to: Carry out clinical work in laboratory animal facilities and participate in the departmental rota. Undertake a research project in laboratory animal science and produce a publication from this. Participate in Journal Clubs and other discussion groups. Prepare for publication a case report or case series, as first author, in a peer-reviewed journal. Contribute to dissemination of the 3Rs by participation in unit visits, clinical rotations, small group teaching and seminars. |
