| Description: | The course content is focused on the work with non-human primates in research and follows the educational objectives as given in the working document on education (2014) of the Expert Working Group of the European Commission. The course covers the learning outcomes required for function A ("Carrying out procedures on animals") and function B ("Designing procedures and projects"). It gives an introduction into primate biology, an overview over different research areas in which primates are used and insides into methodology, procedures and handling. In addition, important topics such as welfare, ethics and legislation are part of the course. The course consist of an e-learning phase which needs to be passed by an online-exam and a subsequent 5 days on-site course at the Geman Primate Center in Goettingen, Germany. The course has been accredited by the FELASA in summer 2017. To this date it is the only accredited species-specific course on primates in Europe. |
