| Description: | In 2009 we organised our first summer course on skin sensitization methods in strong cooperation with the Integrated Project of the EU Sens-it-iv. Sens-it-iv is organising a summer course on the testing methods that are being developed within Sens-it-iv. This course (2012) includes theoretical lectures and practical experiments on (skin) sensitization. After a general introduction on (skin) sensitization we will focus on several mechanistic immunological topics to strengthen your knowledge in this field. A comparison will be made between existing animal models and the currently available in vitro techniques. The laboratory experiments consist of examples of methods currently under (pre)validation. We focus on human cell lines and reconstituted human skin tissue. This course will deal with theoretical and practical aspects of sensitisation, pathology, cell culture models, data handling and experimental design. The laboratory experiments will deal with dendritic (U937cells), epidermal (NCTC2544 cells) and skin models (demonstration). Techniques used are ELISA, PCR and cytotoxicity assays. |
