This atlas provides a complete, state-of-the-art presentation of the developing prenatal rat brain. With the aid of advanced computer graphics, Altman and Bayer revolutionize the study of the highly vulnerable prenatal brain and brings the user closer to understanding the dynamics of its development, its malfunctions, deficits, and abnormalities. The Atlas contains more than 265 plates - each plate accompanied by a computer-aided drawing, a 3-dimensional reconstruction of brain slices with accuracy and clarity, that assists in the visualization of the brain and of the relationships among various brain regions. A new, user-friendly alphanumeric coding system is used, allowing for easy identification of brain regions. Ten embryonic ages are presented with 20 to 35 plates each. High quality micrographs are used. Plates represent the brain of each age in sagittal and coronal planes. A 3-D reconstruction of the brain is presented for each of the ten ages. Computer aided illustrations of brain regions are included. A detailed and logical classification of the germinal matrix at early stages is included.
