Society for Alternatives to Animal Experiments-India (SAAE-I)

SAAE promotes humane research, education and training systems to promote the internationally accepted concept of the Three Rs – Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement - of use of animals in education, research and testing.

The Society for Alternatives to Animal Experiments-India (SAAE-I), a registered scientific society in India, had its genesis at the National Centre for Alternatives to Animal Experiments (erstwhile MGDC), Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli,Tamil Nadu. The SAAE is one of the most regular, vibrant scientific societies in India with a regular annual meet in different parts of the country. SAAE promotes humane research, education and training systems to promote the internationally accepted concept of the Three Rs – Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement - of use of animals in education, research and testing.

Aims and Objectives-

  • To promote adoption of Alternatives to Animal Experiments/3Rs movement in India.
  • To network all the stakeholders of Alternatives to Animal Experiments as an initiative to liaise with the National as well as International Organizations of Alternatives and Animal Welfare so as to minimize animal experiments and to adopt 3Rs in India.
  • To work in collaboration with the Universities, Institutes, Industries to bring about newer alternative methods; help the existing as well as newer alternative methods get validated by the appropriate Agency, and to work for establishment of Validating Agencies.
  • To arrange scientific meetings, workshops and discussions amongst the stake-holders of Alternatives to Animal Experiments.
  • To initiate Journals, Bulletins, News Letters, etc., with a view to popularize the concept of Alternatives to Animal Experiments.
  • To introduce awards, prizes and endowments for commendable activities in the domain of Alternatives to Animal Experiments.
  • To provide / organize courses / training in the different versions of alternatives viz., digital, virtual, in-vitro, in-silico, alternative model organisms, integrated testing strategies (ITS), etc., so as to help human resource development in different domains of alternatives.
