Microsurgery on the Laboratory Rat, Volume 1: Permanent Cannulation of the Iliolumbar Artery

Description: To avoid the influence of anaesthesia or handling of the animal when blood pressure is measured, the permanent cannulation of the blood pressure is measured, the permanent cannulation of the iliolumbar artery is a reliable technique. This video film shows how the cannulation is performed, to create a model with a high patency rate of more than 85% after two weeks. Using both computer-animations and high-quality realistic pictures, the videofilm shows: How dissection of the aorta and the iliolumbar artery is done to enable easy cannulation; Ligatures are placed around the iliolumbar artery and clamps are brought in position on the abdominal aorta; A third ligature is applied in the muscular layer of the iliolumbar artery; After a V-shaped hole is made, the cannula is inserted; and finally the ligatures are tightened and the clamps removed.
