This document was prepared for DGXI of the European Commission to be used with Directive 86/609/EEC. It is published in two parts: the first part comprises sections 1 & 2 with a reading list. Part 2 covers section 3, reference lists and details of training materials.
Contents: objectives of euthanasia. definition of terms, signs of pain and distress, recognition and confirmation of death, personnel and training, handling and restraint, equipment, carcass and waste disposal, acceptable methods of euthanasia, methods acceptable for unconscious animals, and methods that are not acceptable for euthanasia.
