The Rat Dissection (3-D Paper Dissection Model) gives students the full experience of exploring mammalian anatomy and physiology—without the cleanup, chemicals, or ethical concerns. Formerly a longtime favorite of the Getting Nerdy collection, now part of the Inside Out Science lineup.
This rat dissection model lesson includes a student-friendly reading that dives into internal structures and body systems, color and black-line templates for differentiation, and a guided PowerPoint presentation that leads students through coloring, cutting, and assembling their own realistic rat model they can “dissect” again and again. Created to mimic a real dissection, this Scienstructable paper model is ideal as a dissection-free exploration, pre-lab prep, or post-lab comparative anatomy review.
Teachers value the tool for how it reinforces structure and function, while students who opt out of traditional dissections enjoy an authentic, hands-on learning experience that’s both fun and humane. All Inside Out Science models use a consistent organ color system and include templates for both sexes (where applicable). This consistency helps students identify organ systems, compare across species, and make meaningful connections through comparative biology and vertebrate anatomy.
Humane, reusable, and engaging, this Rat Dissection Model brings life science to life—no squeaks attached. Furthermore, this model adheres to modern Three Rs standards (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement), offering an eco-friendly and scent-free experience that accommodates students opting out of traditional dissections.
