FLAIRE (Flecknell Laboratory Animal Interactive Resources for Education) Learning was a set of online interactive resources produced at Newcastle University, U.K.
The resources were designed to support the training of laboratory animal research workers and to continue the professional development of others who work with laboratory animals.
The website consisted of e-modules on:
- Recognition and Prevention of Pain, Suffering and Distress in Laboratory Animals (Lab Animal Welfare)
- Laboratory Animal Anaesthesia for Minor Procedures (Lab Animal Anaesthesia)
- Humane Methods of Killing Laboratory Animals (Lab Animal Euthanasia)
The e-modules were designed to meet the learning objectives in modules 5, 6 and 20 of the common education and training framework endorsed by the Member States to implement EU Directive 2010/63.
The FLAIRE website closed at the end of 2019 to enable focus on a new resources website: Research Animal Training (RAT), researchanimaltraining.com. Moving to this new site allows the developers to combine NC3Rs supported eModules with new articles (course notes) which support PIL AB and PIL C training in the UK.
The free versions of these resources, and others, are also available via the NC3Rs website.
