The central aim of the public-private partnership platform Leibniz Alternatives is to reduce and replace animal experimentation. Leibniz Alternatives develops and uses alternative methods to animal testing.

As a public-private partnership platform, it optimises the collaboration between science, industry and regulation. It is set up to cooperate with efficient players from academia, industry or regulators for the mutual benefit of everyone involved.

The platform advises its partners on alternative methods, test substances, and develop assays. However, it remains an independent research institute acting on behalf of the public sector.

Leibniz Alternatives is located at the IUF-Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine in Dusseldorf.
