Description: The importance of X-rays in dentistry is evident as many dental defects can only be detected using this method. Therefore, a great deal of time and energy is devoted to education. A thorough knowledge of the material is essential. Learning to interpret X-rays correctly requires many hours of practical experience. The Academic Centre for Dentistry in Amsterdam (ACTA) has developed a method that saves both the student and the instructor a great deal of time, while fully preparing the student for practice. The CD-ROM combines modern computer technology with the most extensive practical and theoretical practice. It contains numerous photographs and comprehensive lists of questions. In addition, the CD-ROM answers the user’s questions, gives hints and keeps track of the score for all of the first answers. The program consists of two parts: 1) Mandibula and 2) Maxilla. The Mandibula part has not been subdivided. Thr Maxilla part has been further subdivided due to the anatomical and radiological complexity into: the anterior area; the premolar area; and the molar area. Each part contains 20 to 30 questions on X-rays. There are three types of questions: questions where the user has to select the answer; multiple-choice questions; and questions which the user has to answer in his own words. The user can always ask for help, both before and after answering the questions. The user is given a clue and often a drawing to help him on his way to finding the right answer. The program keeps the score per session of all the user’s first answers. 150 clear photographs have been included in the entire program.
Comments & References: Available in four different versions: the user can select between an English, German, Dutch and Swedish version. Requires Windows 95.
