Description: Carnivore Dissection: Lab Introductions is a web site that contains 25 dissection labs on carnivore (dog/cat). Before each carnivore lab, students meet in a classroom where an instructor narrates an introduction to the lab dissection, presenting objectives, terminology, commentary, and cadaver images. This web site enables students to preview introductory information before a lab and/or review the information before an exam. Information is available in two formats: an interactive web site designed for student use and a series of PDF documents used by instructors in class. Either format may be viewed on-line or the content may be downloaded and viewed from a local hard disc. Information Content available per dissection lab: HTML files - an interactive web site. For each lab, a web page presents objectives, pertinent terminology, instructor commentary, and an array of small images of cadaver dissections. Clicking a small image, opens a window showing an enlarged image with its caption and labels that can be toggled on/off. A navigation menu enables the user to cycle through all large images in circular progression. (Keyboard navigation is available with some browsers). PDF documents - text and images used by instructors in class to introduce carnivore dissection labs, including thumbnail images for navigating each document. Per lab, each PDF document presents: Lab Objectives; Dissection Instructions; Instructor Commentary; Anatomical Terms (pertinent to the lab); Independent Study Suggestions (readings from textbooks, etc.); and Cadaver Dissection Images. NOTE: Compared to the web site, the PDF documents generally have more images. The PDF images are larger but they lack captions and labels. The content of this web site is based on dissection procedures described in the textbook entitled Guide to the Dissection of the Dog, by Evans and deLahunta.
Comments & References: Suitable for first year students studying veterinary anatomy (CVM 6100 Veterinary Gross Anatomy). Both the web site and/or the PDF files used by instructors may be downloaded in order to view them off-line from a local hard disc.
