Case Studies In Small Animal Cardiovascular Medicine

Description: The site is designed to present small animal patients with cardiovascular disease examined in the Cardiology Service at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) at UC-Davis. The student can choose between a list of different heart diseases before he starts on a particular case study. After having chosen a case, the student must first read the Signalment (a brief description of the animal) with symptom presentation (Complaint); Disease history; and Physical examination findings (after observation and palpation). The student must formulate a problem list and see if it agrees with the one provided, and formulate his own diagnostic plan and examine the diagnostic studies in detail. Some of the diagnostic pages and all the "Diagnosis" pages contain quizzes. On subsequent pages, a case discussion, the results of further diagnostic studies, the results of therapy, and follow-up information will be provided. On the last page, text from the appropriate section in the textbook "Small Animal Cardiovascular Medicine" by Kittleson and Kienle is provided for the student to read about the cardiovascular disease that was presented in the case study. "Small Animal Cardiovascular Medicine" is a complete text of cardiovascular medicine of dogs and cats (600 pages, 830 illustrations including 120 full-colour photographs). Some cases include videos from other patients with the same disease to illustrate the abnormalities in real time. All the written case material is transcribed directly from the computerized case records of the patient. Senior students at the UCD VMTH are primarily responsible for this content although this section has been edited.
