Description: cLABs: Neuron demonstrates the interrelationships between Ion Channel Dynamics, Membrane Currents and Voltages. It consists of 4 modules: 1 Membrane Properties; 2 Ion Channels; 3 Voltage-/Current-Clamp Experiments; 4 Compound Action Potential (CAP). Membrane Properties provides animations and simulations to basic functions of neuronal membrane properties which are described in terms of their electrical equivalents. It is divided into: Electrical Equivalents; RC-Circuit; RC-Lab; and Conductance. Ion Channels describes Structure, Gating Mechanisms and Pharmacological Sensitivity of Voltage Dependent NA and K Ion Channels. It is divided into the following sections: Channel Types; Channel States; Single Channel Currents; and Single Channel Lab. Voltage-/Current-clamp Experiments provides a virtual lab for voltage-and current-clamp experiments with different types of neurones. It also explains the background and concepts of the recording techniques. Voltage-/Current-clamp Experiments is divided into: Recording Techniques; and Voltage-/Current-clamp Lab. Compound Action Potential (CAP) is divided into: Principles of CAP-Generation; Time Course; Electrode Distance; Nerve Blocks; and Experiments.

In addition to the CLABs Neuron modules, the customer will receive the high-end computer laboratories for "single-channel recordings" and "voltage/current-clamp experiments", including detailed manuals and tutorials. The institute licence also includes protocol forms for student experiments. Neuron belongs to the cLABs programs. cLABs is a new series of multimedial computer simulations for teaching biology and physiology. cLABs advances the tradition of the Virtual Physiology Series from G. Thieme Publishers (SimNerv, SimMuscle, SimVessel, SimHeart and SimPatch). All the Sim-programs are cited in NORINA as separate programs. Also available from Sheffield BioScience Programs (http://www.sheffbp.co.uk), except Part 4, Compound Action Potential (CAP). This item may also be borrowed for up to 6 weeks through the Alternative Loan System of the International Network for Humane Education (InterNICHE), free of charge, but return postage must be paid by the person who has borrowed the product.
