This Volume of animal placentas was created to assist with the examination and evaluation of the many different types of mammalian placentas. The placenta is a neglected organ, considering how important its function is. The placentas are so varied in their appearance that many students find them difficult to examine. The author presents normal anatomy of animal placentas and add some features of gestation that are relevant. There is little information on the pathological features of animal placentas. These web pages have been and continue to be an ongoing project. New placentas are added frequently. This web site consists of hundreds of pages and images, indexed by animal orders. For new inclusion, please contact the author at kbenirsc@ucsd.edu.
