The lucite lens is functional: it can be used to form inverted, magnified images just like a real eye. The vitreous body is transparent and features a detailed diagrammatic cross section of the retina which shows rods, cones, bipolar neurons, and optic fibers. Featured on the exterior of the eye is the cornea through which the iris and pupil are visible, the large tear gland, attachments for all six muscles which move the eyeball, the optic nerve, and the blood vessels which supply the eye. The 16-page Instructor's Manual includes factual text; instructions on the use of the model; information about the nature of light and vision including visual abnormalities; labelled diagrams; and 22 suggested student activities. The manual also includes 42 hand-coded features of the human eye that correspond with the model. Size 6 x 6 x 6 inches (15 x 15 x 15 cm).
