Description: Gaits1.3 is an independent study courseware intended to help students learn foot-fall patterns of normal quadruped gaits, using the dog as a model.   It is intended to offer extracurricular information to veterinary students, as background material to prepare the students to recognize gait abnormalities.    This program describes the major types of gaits and their typical variations.   It should help students to develop the skill of recognizing limb patterns in a moving animal by instructing them about what to anticipate when they observe locomotion.   The skill of recognizing limb patterns in a moving animal is important for diagnosing lameness.   Gaits 1.3 features: General background information about gaits; Glossary of terms and bibliography; Advice about using the courseware; Presentation of different gaits: Walk, Amble, Trot, Pace, Canter, Transverse Gallop, and Rotary Gallop.   Lateral views of dogs locomoting in each of the above gaits; Illustrations of footfall patterns per gait; Locomotion progression by single steps, forward or backward; Locomotion animation - continuous cycling through locomotion steps at variable speeds; Gait specific information available in pop-up fields for each gait via button click.
