Knotting And Suturing Technique

This is artificial skin in a holder, where the students can practise knot tying and suture patterns. Teachers instruct 15-18 students at a time for 20 minutes.
Materials:
- Wound bandage (e.g. Allevyn), 4mm cut into pieces 12 x 9 cm
- Holders
Set up:
- Place the Allevyn in the holders
- Instruct and evaluate
- The next group is given new polyurethane sheets
The following supplies should be available at the work station:
- Needle holder
- Forceps
- Scissors
- Scalpel
- Suture
- Needles
Student instructions:
Perform the following sutures :
- Simple interrupted suture in skin
- Continuous suture in skin
- Continuous subcutaneous suture - bury the knots
- Intradermal suture continuous in skin - bury the knots
- Inverting suture
- Cushing
- Lembert
- Tension-relieving suture
- Horizontal mattress
- Vertical mattress
