This Teaching and Learning Resource Pack (TLRP) focuses on the design of clinical trials and on the development of new drugs and aims: To provide a teaching resource which will help lecturers to incorporate computer based learning (CBL) into their courses and stimulate the design of assessments and exercises to test students' understanding; To provide a resource which may be used by students to enhance their learning in this area.   Students undertaking these activities should be able to: Understand and discuss the manner in which new drugs are discovered; Describe the process of development of successful drugs; Discuss economic and medical constraints which govern whether or not a novel agent will be developed by the pharmaceutical industry; Understand the scientific principles governing the design of clinical trials; Discuss the regulatory requirements for clinical investigations; Develop the ability to use CBL to complement other learning methods.   Lecturers using these materials should be able to: Gain insight into the manner in which CBL materials may be used to enhance students' learning in a variety of situations; Utilise the materials provided to design exercises and assignments specific to their students.
