In connection with its work of accreditation of animal care and use programmes, AAALAC International has issued position statements on a number of key elements in such a programme.
The position statements include:
- The attending veterinarian and veterinary care
- Cage or pen space
- Social housing
- Selecting the appropriate standard(s) for the care and use of agricultural animals
- Safety requirements for walk-in cage/rack washers and bulk sterilisers
- Occupational health and safety programme
- Macacine herpes virus 1 (Herpes B virus)
