The Canadian Centre for Alternatives to Animal Methods (CCAAM) and the Canadian Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods (CaCVAM) aim to develop, validate, and promote non-animal, human biology-based platforms in biomedical research, education, and chemical safety testing.

The overarching goal of CaCVAM is to work in partnership with Canadian regulators—primarily Health Canada—to expedite the development, validation, and regulatory acceptance of new approach methodologies (alternatives to animal testing) to modernise toxicity testing in Canada. A key objective of CaCVAM is to focus on projects that are driven by Canadian regulatory needs while contributing to international efforts in a uniquely Canadian way, particularly by supporting Health Canada’s leadership role in the Chemical Test Guidelines Program at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development as well as the International Cooperation on Alternative Test Methods.
