Guidelines for the Establishment and Functioning of Animal Ethics Committees [Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees] in Africa

These guidelines were developed at a workshop in Tunisia in 2019.

These guidelines were developed and approved at a Workshop for Developing Guidelines for the Establishment and Functioning of Animal Ethics Committees in Africa, co-sponsored by the International Council for Laboratory Animal Science (ICLAS), convened at the Ecole Nationale de Medecine Veterinaire de Sidi Thabet, Tunisia, on 4-8 March 2019.

The guidelines were developed in a collaborative process, including 32 delegates from 12 African countries and were signed on 8 March 2019.

They were published by SAALAS (South African Association for Laboratory Animal Science.

A paper by Mohr et al. published in 2023 describes the development of the guidelines.
