PubMed contains more than 30 million records including biomedical and clinical research, veterinary medicine and science, and laboratory animal science. Citations may include links to full-text content from PubMed Central and publisher web sites. It indexes using terms such as animal welfare, laboratory animal science, animal testing alternatives, animal use alternatives, animal experimentation, research design, and animal models. Search terms such as "animal use alternatives" and "animal testing alternatives" used alone or with other terms should, however, not be relied upon to produce an effective search strategy.
PubMed contains all of the information in MEDLINE plus in-process citations, NIH-authored manuscripts, citations that precede a journals inclusion in MEDLINE, full-text articles, and other types of information. PubMed can be searched using the MEDLINE thesaurus, MeSH, but not all citations are indexed with MeSH. Before beginning a search the help section should be read to ensure effective and efficient use of this database.
