Description: | Lab Animal Centre (LAC) is part of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Eastern Finland. LAC conducts research in the area of laboratory animal science and gives training and education related to lab animal science and procedures. Persons involved in laboratory animal experiments must be adequately educated and trained before they perform procedures to animals and persons designing procedures and projects must have received instructions in a scientific discipline relevant to the work being undertaken and shall have species-specific knowledge (Directive 2010/63/EU, Finnish legislation Law 497/2013, 8§ and Statute 564/2013, 18§). Staff carrying out procedures shall be supervised in the performance of their tasks until they have demonstrated the requisite competence. According to the Directive 2010/63/EU all persons involved in laboratory animal experiments shall be adequately educated and trained before they start their work with animals. Staff/students shall be supervised in the performance of their tasks until they have demonstrated the requisite competence. Education and training is species specific. Lab Animal Centre organizes the lab animal services and teaching at the University of Eastern Finland and also supervises and guides activities related to lab animals. In addition, centre produces and supplies laboratory animals mainly to the university's own research groups, but also helps the other universities and institutions. |
