Ewa Harasimczuk has a degree as a fish health biologist from the University of Bergen (2012), and a doctoral degree from the Sea Lice Research Centre on the biology of salmon lice.

Since January 2021 she has been responsible for the fish health programme at the Norwegian Veterinary Institute, from her office in Bergen. Among other tasks she works on fish welfare for both salmon and cleaner fish.

More recently she has worked on issues related to the large use of research fish in Norway. She emphasises the need to continue to advance the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement) in order to improve animal welfare in both research and industry.
