Ileum simulated laboratory experiments which investigate the effects of drugs on the in vitro guinea-pig ileum. It was possible to mimic experiments to identify an unknown compound. Random elements were incorporated into Ileum to simulate the inherent biological variability in the response to the same dose of agonist. Ileum could be used quantitatively or qualitatively and a representation of a "chart trace" was produced on screen. This could be printed out and measured and analyzed in the usual way. Drugs available for the Ileum simulation were: AGONISTS: Acetylcholine, Carbachol, Angiotensin, Histamine, Potassium chloride, Tetramethylammonium, Furmethide, Methacholine, Vasopressin, Barium chloride, Hexyltrimethylammonium and Dimethylphenylpiperazinium. ANTAGONISTS: Atropine, Hexamethonium, Papaverine, Mepyramine, Lignocaine and Eserine.
