LapSim Haptic System

The LapSim System includes a Haptic hardware platform with LapCam, a separate laparoscope, and a height adjustable rolling SimFrame to house the system. Includes 3 Core Software Modules: Basic Skills; Task Training; and Camera Anatomy Training. The Basic Skills module offers a comprehensive portfolio of laparoscopic procedure exercises that range from basic navigation to advanced suturing. Each exercise is customisable to provide complications and ongoing challenges. Courses can easily be created or modified by the teacher to fit a student's specific needs, or the requirements of a training curriculum. The LapSim Basic Skills contains 13 different exercises: Camera navigation; Instrument navigation; Coordination; Grasping; Cutting; Clip applying; Lifting and grasping Suturing; Precision and speed; Handling intestines; Fine dissection; Seal and Cut; Catheter Insertion. Task Training module: Inspired by the Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS), a standard developed by the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), the Task training module includes: Peg Transfer; Pattern Cutting; and Ligating Loop. Camera Anatomy Training module: this module focuses on teaching camera handling with straight and angled optics within a virtual anatomy. Tasks are scored on multiple metrics, such as deviation from the horizontal line: focus, zoom and light intensity management, and drift. Available modules are: Abdominal Anatomy; Female pelvic anatomy; Additional modules are under development. Additional LapSim Software Modules available are: Appendectomy; Bariatrics; Cholecystectomy; Gynecology; Hysterectomy; Nephrectomy; Suturing & Anastomosis; VATS Lobectomy.
