Description: This technique enables continuous blood sampling from the general circulation of the freely moving rat. It also enables, infusion of fluids in this general circulation without distributing or handling the animal. This video film shows the principle of the technique by means of computer-animation. Subsequently, the operation is shown in great detail, using 3 professional cameras (surgeon's view, total view and microscopic view). Features: The place of incision is located; The incision is made; The jugular vein is located and mobilized over a small distance; Ligatures are placed, the hole in the vein is made and the cannulae inserted; Finally, the wound is closed and the taking of bloodsamples is explained by computer-animation and shown in detail in realistic pictures.
