Description: In pharmacological and physiological studies, repeated blood sampling or infusion in either the general circulation or the portal vein, in unanaesthetized freely moving animals is of major interest. This video film shows, in an instructive way, two variations of the portal vein cannulation: Single cannulation of the portal vein; A portal sample cannula and an infusion cannula, combined with stimulation electrodes. The use of these platinum electrodes brings the possibility to study the presynaptic regulation of neurotransmitter release from noradrenergic nerve terminals, in the freely moving animal.
