Muscle Alive is an interactive program which demonstrates how skeletal, smooth, and cardiac muscle contract and relax utilizing views of muscle fibers that range from the macroscopic to the microscopic level. This program was created with Macromedia Director 4.0 with input and guidance from physiologist Dr. Colin Budd at the Medical College of Ohio. Muscle Alive includes still images of muscle, animations of diagrams and actual muscle pictures. There is also a digital narration in which Dr. Budd explains the content of each section. The program demonstrates the workings of skeletal, smooth and cardiac muscle. System requirements: 10 MB RAM, hard disc with 1.7 MB free space, 13 inch or larger monitor capable of displaying thousands of colours (16 bit), 2X CD-ROM, and Macintosh System 7.1. or higher. This item may be borrowed for up to 6 weeks through the Alternative Loan System of the International Network for Humane Education (InterNICHE), free of charge, but return postage must be paid by the person who has borrowed the product.
