FICAM (Finnish Centre for Alternative Methods)

FICAM (Finnish Centre for Alternative Methods)

FICAM (Finnish Centre for Alternative Methods) was established in December 2008. FICAM was located in the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences at the University of Tampere. FICAM developed and validated human-cell-based tissue/organ models, shares information on alternative methods, educates experts, and acted as the Finnish reference laboratory for EURL-ECVAM (European Union Reference Laboratory for Alternatives to Animal Testing).

Tuula Heinonen, who was director of FICAM, is the Finnish representative (contact point) in the PARERE (Preliminary Assessment of Regulatory Relevance) Network under Article 47(5) of Directive 2010/63/EU.

FICAM has been replaced by FHAIVE at the same University.
