The Wellcome Trust in the U.K. has produced a number of guidance documents about the use of animals in research.

Wellcome has also signed a declaration of openness on animal research, along with other research funders and charities, universities and pharmaceutical companies This Concordat on Openness on Animal Research now has its website, events and newsletter. The Trust supports the Association of Medical Research Charities' statement on the use of animals in research.

The Wellcome Trust website links to a document from the NC3Rs on Choosing contractors for animal research, which gives advice on appropriate animal welfare standards for researchers applying for grant funds from the major UK bioscience funding bodies. The website has also a number of documents on the use of non-human primates for research purposes.

The Wellcome Trust has also published Joint European Funding Principles for Research Involving Animals, endorsed by funders of research across Europe including the Research Council of Norway and the Danish 3R-Center.

The Trust has also part-funded a document entitled Responsibility in the Use of Animals In Bioscience Research.
