Description: Technical instructions about the surgery and use of chronically cannulated blood vessels in rats.   The advantages of this method are that experiments can be done on conscious unstressed animals, over a long period.   This record deals with the cannulation of the jugular vein, which is used for drug infusion and blood sampling.   The procedure of blood sampling is demonstrated by a combination of live video images and animation.   Furthermore the maintenance of the cannula and several precautions are shown.
