Grasshopper Dissection (3-D Paper Dissection Model) gives students an up-close look at insect structure and function through a humane, hands-on approach that’s easy on the budget and the planet. Formerly a longtime favorite of the Getting Nerdy collection, now part of the Inside Out Science lineup.
This grasshopper dissection model lesson includes a student-friendly reading that introduces insect anatomy and physiology, plus black-line and color templates for the full specimen and mouth structures. Differentiated for all learners, the set also comes with a guided PowerPoint presentation that walks students through coloring, cutting, and assembling their own realistic 3-D model they can dissect again and again. Created to mimic a real dissection, this Scienstructable paper model works perfectly as a dissection-free exploration, pre-lab introduction, or post-lab assessment. Teachers value the tool before dissection days, helping students identify internal organs and body systems, while students who opt out appreciate the authentic, specimen-free experience that still brings biology to life.
All Inside Out Science models maintain consistent color schemes and include templates for both sexes (where applicable), helping students recognize anatomical relationships across species and deepen understanding of comparative biology and structure-function connections.
Furthermore, this model adheres to modern Three Rs standards (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement), offering an eco-friendly and scent-free experience that accommodates students opting out of traditional dissections.
