The Natsume Rat is a silicone rat designed for use on medical, pharmaceutical and veterinary training courses. Users can practise their blood sampling and injection techniques and perform oral administration. They can also practise placing a gavage safely in the animal's stomach (for oral administration). Users can also learn how to pick up and how to handle a rat correctly by using this simulator. The techniques can be repeated over and over again until the users have mastered good techniques. The rat is anatomically accurate with a pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, oesophagus and stomach. In addition, the Natsume Rat has a tail vein that can be filled with artificial blood for practising blood sampling and injection techniques. The abdomen is partially transparent so that the users can evaluate their gavaging techniques. The tail is replaceable and tolerates a lot of injections. Tails made for the Natsume Rat can also be used on the "Koken Rat", an older rat simulator.
