The Swedish 3Rs Center promotes improved animal welfare and the use of fewer animals in experiments. The Centre's mission is to encourage and facilitate work with replacing, reducing, and refining experiments using live animals in Sweden. The Center's website is available in both English and Swedish.
The Swedish 3Rs Center will:
- put together advice and recommendations that concerns obtaining, breeding, keeping, maintenance and use of animals in experiments. The centre will thus offer counselling to those who work with animal experiments in Sweden
- gather, provide and distribute information about the 3Rs.
- have a supporting role toward the animal ethical boards by providing knowledge and education
- give support and establish collaboration with animal welfare bodies
- promote mutual use of animal organs and tissue
- work closely together with the users of laboratory animals, organisations, other concerned authorities and national and international actors that are of importance for the 3Rs
- be the acting body of the Swedish national committee for the protection of animals used for scientific purposes. As the acting body the Centre will help the national committee with their tasks, for example making sure that there is an exchange of best practice within Sweden and within the European Union.
