The UK Centre for Bioscience ImageBank was an online collection established in 2003 of more than 6,000 bioscience images which were freely available and licensed for use in teaching and learning. The content of the ImageBank covered a wide range of subjects from Agriculture to Zoology and includes images from all the major taxonomic groups. Many images were accompanied by a short description and the species name and common name where appropriate. All images and accompanying information were checked for accuracy by those with substantial knowledge of the subject matter. Users were able to search for images based on keywords or browse within a wide range of bioscience subject areas. In 2011 Jisc MediaHub (a multimedia platform) was set up to meet the needs of the UK's education and research communities to access and use licensed audio-visual content for teaching, learning and research. Over the years technology changed and this prompted Jisc to re-assess the continuation of MediaHub. From July 2016 the subscription service was no longer available.
