14-Humane killing, release, re-use or re-homing

Decisions should be made at an early stage as to whether the animals must be humanely killed (and if so, at what point) or whether they can be released into wild, re-used for experiments or re-homed.

 A FELASA Working Group is preparing recommendations for methods of humane killing of laboratory fish. The results of a survey have been published: A FELASA Working Group Survey on Fish Species Used for Research, Methods of Euthanasia, Health Monitoring, and Biosecurity in Europe, North America, and Oceania (J-P Mocho & Kristine von Krogh, 2022).
